Mountain Lion Sneaks into Existence

Over the night Apple surprised the world with the announcement of its brand new operating system. This operating system is now officially known as Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Now you can instantly tell from the name that this isn't a brand new OS 11 or even and completely new OS X, but Mountain Lion improves the current Lion with a few additional apps and tweaks that will make the iPhone, iPad, Mac integration fantastic. The new features remind me a lot of iOS so lets get straight into it to see what you think.

The first new add on is a notifications area, it will be a lot like the facebook side clicker but it will be able to be toggled to be the whole column or just little icons popping up in the top right hand corner. I dont think I will like this feature, I dont really see that my laptop gets enough notifications to have a whole sidebar for it so i'm interested to see what happens with this.

The second and third features I will be writing about are just iOS integrations. Now with Mountain Lion there will be no more iChat but iMessages. iMessage, as some of you iOS people already know, lets you message any Mac or iOS device. The other feature is the to do list. Reminders will sync across all the platforms. I am interested to see how Reminders will fully work, because for me a lot of the people in my house have iOS devices but we have one Mac that everyone uses too. So seeing how quickly the logging in and out takes will definitely be the factor to is I use this or not.

Similarly to iOS 5.0, Mountain Lion has taken a liking to twitter. The integration will be everywhere with the new update. You can tweet websites, tweet photo booth shots and even tweet a new feature Apple calls sharesheets, which is pretty much just a sharing feature for Devs.

To wrap up the update, Mountain Lion has iCloud integration for pages which will be a great feature in my opinion, there will be an Airplay function wich will stream your Mac desktop, as long as you have an Apple TV, there will be iOS style notes that you can pin all over the place and finally there will be game center features, letting you play iOS devices on you mac with compatible apps.

Mountain Lions looks like an update that is just going to help you with your complete Apple experience. I still think most of these ideas a great additions to the Mac and I will definitely be upgrading when the time comes. The update is coming out in Winter or The Northern Hemisphere Summer
